The seaside is a typical geographical feature of George Town which is located at the northern tip of the Penang Island. Green Hall is a no-through street in George Town, it is connected to Light Street at one end, while the other leads to the seaside. Many of the buildings here are occupied by legal firms because of its strategic location i.e. near to the Court House. Besides the original rows of heritage shophouses that lined both sides of the street, there are few modern multi-storeyed office buildings here, one of which occupied by a moderate-scale private college. As such, during daytime, this street is frequented by busy office workers and students.

The materials presented here are produced at one of Lefty’s most favourite spots during his fieldwork. It is a mobile coffee stall strategically located by the seaside at the end of Green Hall. To Lefty, the unpretentious atmosphere at this specific locality enables harmonious correspondences among different people. Unlike the exclusive tourist beach destinations on the island, the seaside here is accessible to all. The rocky shore is a leisure fishing spot for the local people especially during evening hours. People exchange fishing tips and casual chit-chats. The food stall which is operated by an Indian owner with a Chinese helper, offers simple food and beverages for both the leisure seekers, the office crowd as well as the students. Among the popular items on the menu are nasi lemak, kopi O and teh tarik. These are the “national dishes” that appeal to the taste palate of every Malaysian.
